Home for the Destitute-Perumanur

Brief History

First branch house of the sisters of the Destitute is established at Perumanoor on December 9th 1936.It was constructed as a silver Jubilee memorial of the Episcopal ordination of Arch Bishop His grace Mar Augustine Kandathil. The compassionate love of Christ gave inspiration to begin a destitute home for the poor and abandoned people. On 28th November 1937,Mr.R.K Shanmugham Shetty the Divan of Cochin has inaugurate the house for the destitute. We are happy to state that this first house is located in the native place of Founder servant of God Fr. Varghese Payyappilly. The house was always full, Who are brought from hospitals, streets and from certain houses those who have nobody to look after them. It is a fulfillment of Divine dream. Many good & generous people from different parts of the state visit the home & help with food medicines, money, dress etc. The members are always happy & spent their time in front of Blessed Sacrament. Many men & women are gone to eternal rest from this home for destitute.
